Journey from west to east

The journey from west to east. We took a tram to a transition station of metrobus and then travelled by metrobus across Golden Horn and Bosphorus, arriving at Kadikoy. Then we went back to Sisli and travel to Taksim by metro, where the old tram started. At the same time, another ferry trip started in Kabatas.

Istanbul on vehicles

My exploration in Istanbul began with different kinds of vehicles. There a variety choice of vehicles in Istanbul, trams, buses, metros, ferries, metrobuses, suburban trains, taxis and old tram. They run in different layers of the city but connect and overlap, which offer with us another dimension of experiencing the city. The city would be different once I boarded on a different vehicle. I may come across surprises when moving in the city.

Begin with 7 curiosities of architecture

1. Abandoned Arhictecture

Whenever I visited, I was always attracted by those buildings, landscape and all the urban corners which were prosperous but currently are abandoned or forgotten by contemporary societies. However, they were all telling stories of urban memories and histories. How to regenerate these buildings or areas to integrate with nowadays and retell their own stories might be one of my focus.

2. developments of architecture and lifestyle

This is a small port in Xiamen, where residents live by fishing and spent most of their life on ships. However, the industry declined in nowadays. Their living conditions are also in need of development with their pace of life style.

3. Cinematic Architecture

 

It's not a fresh topic, but those architectural movies or cities appearing in movies did attract me. Take "Inception" as an example, I like the idea of converting horizontal roads into vertical ones and breaking endless reflection between two mirrors to create new city. I like the approach to unrealistic construction in movies.

4. Urban borders

In terms of urban borders, I mean the areas between two or more urban areas, like downtown villages. Sometimes, they are highly mixed and commercially prosperous. Residences consider it as an ideal shopping area while disliked it due to poor environment and criminal acts, which cause the conflicts between villagers and citizens.

5. Acupuncture solution to urban issues

How to solve urban problems with minimum construction like acupuncture treatment? How to find the imperative points of urban body?

6. Conserving urban memories and identities in fast developing cities.

7. Afford fun for pedistrians

Cities are designed for cars rather than citizens in nowadays. How to creat a funny and attractive path for walking?
